About me

I enjoy making stuff. Mostly this stuff consists of light boxes, furry puppet-like things and strange pictures of child / animal hybrids. It's quite an eclectic mix and, with regards to the work on this website, it differs once again.

The work is cartoon focused and the emphasis is on capturing expressions and drawing quickly. I've always liked my work to have momentum whether it be in its style or subject matter. Even as a kid I would produce hundreds of quick sketches, either from memory or from life, and with a determination that reflected my lack of fear when it came to making marks.

I suppose line drawing and pace have always been a magic combination of mine that I've carried right through from school to university, where during 'Life Classes' I'd prefer the 15 minute to the 30 minute pose every time. Personally I find this style of working best suited to life observations and, although the drawings on this website are all cartoons- some from memory, some partially from life- I find it also necessary that they all have that sense of urgency and of being in the moment.

People and animals, as well as being an obvious vehicle in the history of cartoon, also provide me with the platform to express the full array of characteristics that essentially make us human. It's fun to do and, some might say perhaps slightly obvious, but I really do enjoy the drama you can create from making a few simple marks on paper that then represent an emotion.

Put a dog in a suit and a cat sat at a computer in it and I'm having a great time.

I am open to all sorts of projects ranging from greeting card designs, to letter heads, party invitations and book illustrations. I have had my work commissioned by many different clients, from world renowned collage artist Tim Roeloffs to writers, poets and health care specialists small and large. All of the projects I have been working on so far have been enthusiastically received.
